Correspondence, ca. 1829-1858.

Letters by Leslie to various correspondents, including Sir Martin Archer Shee (1839, n.d.), Abraham Cooper (n.d.), William Wethered (1851) and Myles Birket Foster (1851), concerning his work and other matters, together with three letters received, and two descriptions of Leslie's paintings. Included in Leslie's letters are one in which he discusses whether paintings at Petworth House ascribed to Van Dyck are genuine (1842); one regarding the publication of his Royal Academy lectures in "the Athenaeum" (1849); and a draft of an acknowledgement for the receipt from Maria Constable of the plates for "Mr. Constable's English Landscape" in which Leslie promises her 30 copies of his "Memoirs of John Constable". The letters received include two from Henry Holland (1829, n.d.) concerning a portrait and drawings by Leslie, and one from John Bannister (1834 with an engraved portrait of Bannister) regarding Leslie's living in the U.S. and mentioning the British collector John Sheepshanks.
